REVIEW | Neutrogena Pore Refining Daily Cleanser On Oily Skin

Neutrogena Pore Refining Daily Cleanser on oily skin 1
Hi guys, Its been a minute :)
Last time, I reviewed The Advanced Retinoid 2% by The Ordinary which is still one of my favorite skincare products till date. But, I took a little time-out off it to put other products into my regimen rotation and also so I don't over-exfoliate my skin.
I will be sharing my thoughts about this really budget-friendly cleanser I got the other day at Ebeano supermarket in Lekki. A worthy purchase even with a few reactions notwithstanding- I tell ya!

Neutrogena Pore Refining Daily Cleanser

OVERALL REVIEW

I have been using the Neutrogena Pore Refining Daily Cleanser for a little over two weeks and I love how my skin’s been faring since I incorporated this into my skincare routine. My first attraction to this blue bottle was the “Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Formula” written in front of the packaging; also usually called AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) or BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid). In case you are wondering what the big deal is- AHA and BHA are among the major forces for skin radiance.

AHA come in various forms as well as BHA does. In this product the kind of AHA used is Glycolic acid and BHA, Salicylic acid. There was no calibration on the label on how much of these acids were infused into this product and no mention on Neutrogena's site either. I think it's an important detail, but more on AHA and BHA on a later date.

Neutrogena claims, “with an alpha and beta hydroxyl formula penetrates deep into pores to help tighten their appearance so they appear smaller and less visible, refines skin’s tone and texture by sweeping away dead surface skin and uneven patches”
Meaning, it has exfoliating, unclogging and toning properties.

PROS

  • I have been using this cleanser daily for a little over two (2) weeks now and I noticed my pores appeared smaller than usual. This might be nothing too fancy because properly cleansed skin will help make your pores appear shrunken and almost invisible. I have large pores around my cheeks and this product doesn’t feel like just an average product on my skin.

  • It works beyond that to unclog my pores, which is a BHA specialty. The white heads on my skin reduced remarkably around my chin; which is my most telling area for white heads.

  • My skin appeared a little bit brightened and smooth when I figured how to make it work for me.

  • It doesn’t strip or dry out my skin. For a soapy cleanser, that’s a huge relief- my skin doesn’t need to overwork to replenish its sebum.

  • At NGN3,999, this bottle packs 198ml of fluid that will last me no less than 3 months because of how a little goes a long way to cleanse my skin.

CONS

  • I don’t think it is gentle enough to use daily, for me at least. The fragrance in this product is disturbing and it irritated my skin; I developed rashes around my eyes with a little bit of itching. Neutrogena should have added a milder note or no scent at all, really. I don't have an extremely sensitive skin to fragrance inclusive skincare products, but this is a different time for my skin because of products in rotation in my routine. The irritation subsided when I stopped using for about 2 days. Have I stopped using this product? NO. But I've figured how my skin can work with it.

HOW I USE

  • I figured I was using this too often and I really wanted to see this product through because we paid for it :D. Now, I use this in a space of 42 or 45 hours; i.e., if used in my morning routine then i'll use again in the night of the following day or change the pattern as long as its up to 42 hours or more from previous use.

  • One & half pump on your palm goes a long way when applied on wet face and neck. And oh! It is a rinse-off cleanser with a loose gel-like consistency that has a slight blue tint to it.
  • Neutrogena warned of sun burns. The skin will be increasingly sensitive to UV rays because of the acids included in this product; so I never go out without applying sunscreen.

Wondering if you should try out this product??

I will definitely recommend it if you don't have a sensitive skin. It works really really well in ridding the skin of white heads and also improves skin tone and texture.

I'd rate it 4/5 for it's efficacy and durability also.

Have given this product a try- what are your thoughts about it?

    1. Lol! I think my first was Neutrogena too 🤔
I just started being serious with sunscreen this year o....you’ll jump on very soon.
The thing with these kind of acids is that they can be extreme exfoliating; they get rid dead skin and help reveal new skin that is tender which is great! but then the sun is just too harsh on the skin...

Using a potent product like this on your skin requires sunscreen to protect this new layer of skin else you will tan even more than usual.
      And thank you!
