Skincare Empties & Repurchased Items VOL 1.

January 10, 2018

Top Nigerian beauty blogger

Happy New Year!

That rolled out nicer than I expected.
I've been missing in action and I'm so sick of the excuses.  I hear ya and I apologize; but you have to hear it- I hit the writer's block (pun intended) also coupled with a pinch of lazy.

But it feels so good to write again and finally complete this post that has been in my draft since November of 2017. But, here we are now *stares at my resolutions for 2018*.

Got the inspiration for this topic from other beauty bloggers I love so much (will share my bookmark with you in a future post) and decided why not do this for content-sake!
Oh don't take it the wrong way, it is good-helpful content; and because I've used them for a period of time it helps give a long-sighted overview on products that performed well or products that didn't and also which ones I loved so much that I had to get another.

So in no particular order let's get to it.

The Ordinary's Salicylic Acid 2% Solution (15ml)  - NGN3,500 :
This is one of my favorite products from Deciem because it delivers against pimples and it has become a must-never-run-out product for me.

I reach for it every now and then when pimples show up on my face. A dab of this on the affected area will first make the pain go away then dry it up and you can bid the pimple goodbye in just 2 days. It could be 1 day if the pimple has barely scratched the surface; it makes the symptoms disappear before the next day.
Without need for further conviction, I repurchased it and this time in a 30ml bottle. This is not a detailed review on this product and I'll dish that out in my next post.

Cookie Skin Complexion Shield Day Lotion SPF50 (100ml) - NGN9,000 : This is the first sunscreen I have ever purchased(fun fact). It's a Nigerian brand and this is the only product i've used from this brand. I've gone through 2 bottles and almost half way through my 3rd bottle!

I can't do without sunscreen now, more than ever; especially since I started incorporating actives/acids in my routine. Definitely look forward to trying sunscreens by other brands because this one isn't particularly the best there is but because it's easily accessible, I've stuck with it.
Kindly recommend sunscreens you love that do well underneath makeup, thank you.

R and R Luxury's Baobab Oil (50ml) : I raved about this product sometime in October of 2017. I shared why my skin appreciates this stuff (see here if you'd like to know more).

It is a very versatile oil - I used it as a daily moisturizer, for my lips, hair. It can also be used as a massage oil too! However this oil can be of use to you, it will work. This is just a mini-insight about it and I think you should know more about it (click here).
Just ran out and will get a second bottle in no time!

Simple Skincare Refreshing Daily Facial Wash Gel (150ml) : I was so religous with this stuff especially in my morning routine. It's formulated for sensitive skin which isn't my skin type but I got it as a gift, so what can I say.

I used it, I loved how mild it was but it wasn't as cleansing as I would have hoped it to be. One and only reason why it only found it's way to my morning regimen because that's when I barely have anything to clean off my face. It wasn't made for my skin-type so I'm not in the position to say it's a fail product.
But I'm not buying this anyway.

SebaMed Clear Face Antibacterial Cleansing Foam (150ml) - about NGN2,500 : Never used a cleanser with so much character and fun to it. It comes out as a foam, not gel, not liquid but as a foam. I enjoyed this cleanser as a first cleanse step in my routine.
I would have had a second bottle by now only if Nigerian stores are in the habit of restocking! urghh...

Neutrogena Pore Refining Daily Cleanser (198ml) - NGN3,990 : I can't seem to shake off the fact that they held back 2ml..lol!
Jokes aside, my skin has learned to tolerate this this stuff. Initially when I started using it daily I complained my skin wasn't having it due to the fragrance. I'd redirect you to a post I shared about my experience and review of this product, click here.

Over weeks of consistent use, my skin can cope with this product once every 24 hours unlike before and my skin feels fine.
It is so deep cleaning that I can use this as the only cleanse step in my skincare routine. Another bonus point is that it doesn't dry out my skin.
Already got a second bottle of which I've used over 7 times!

Never anticipated I had much to say about these empties to make it a long post; but I'm on a roll. Can you tell? Yes? Yes.

Would love to know which of these products you've tried and loved in the comment section.

Thank you for reading <3

  1. Hi June, first timer on the blog. These totally seem like investments. I haven't used any products here but I'm willing to try out the Salycic acid from Deciem, the reviews have been amazing. I'm trying ton use all natural products on my skin because the chemicals in some products are scary as hell.

    Thanks for sharing though.

    1. Hi Ebun!
I believe every formulated product "au natural" or not is made up of something. Can't deny the fact that there are some that contain substances that are harmful to the skin(or body) and there are some that pure; but due research on the ingredient listing is advised to help clear things up before purchase.

The Salicylic acid by Deciem is such a potent serum for dealing with pimples/acne and generally for unclogging pores. I will recommend it to anyone who always have to deal with those.

Lovely to have you here and thank you reading <3

    1. Hi!
Face rash could be caused by a lot of things... most importantly it could be you are reacting to a product you just recently started using. The usual thing to do is, stop use and watch if it goes away.

Ps: I’m not in the best position to recommend what to use, because there are more details you need to establish before anyone can.

      Thank you for reading.
